Joanna Rieke works as a designer, photographer, illustrator and journalist. Born in San Francisco, she has lived in Southern California, Chicago, Sydney and Boston. She currently resides in Peterborough, NH where she freelances for a variety of publications and clients.

Last year, she initiated her own project documenting the intersection between Irish literature and everyday life towards a Fulbright grant. Preliminary photographic work was short-listed for a Lucie Foundation grant.

Several months prior, she worked in-house at Time Out magazine while volunteering at China Heights gallery in Sydney. She also covered Medal Day from the artists' perspective at The MacDowell Colony in August 2010. Her work is published in Happenstance, Poets & Writers, AIGA Boston, Live Nation and K2 Snowboards, among others.

Additionally, she recently started the publishing design blog, UnCovered, which reviews magazine and book cover designs along with features interviews with designers, illustrators and art directors at aesthetically-conscious publications.

Rieke received her degree in journalism from Boston University with a minor in art history and photography and previously studied illustration and design at Maryland Institute College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design

She is currently seeking full-time and freelance opportunities to apply her experience to publishing and the arts.
